Dumbbell Stand Sizes and Weight Capacity

Weight plates are heavy and can be a real pain on the floor. A dumbbell stand can help keep them organised and out of the way, but you need to pick a stand that fits your collection of weight plates.

Single, Two, or Three Tiers

There are dumbbell stands available with single, two or three tiers to store all of your dumbbells. The single tier is ideal for a small amount of matching dumbbells whereas the two and three tier models are better suited for storing a selection of lighter to heavier dumbbells.

Height and Tier Spacing

As taller dumbbells (e.g. long hex weights >20kg) will not sit flat on smaller tier spacings, the manufacturer listed tier gap needs to be compared with the length of the longest pair of dumbbells you have.

Weight Capacity Ratings

Check the maximum weight that your heaviest dumbbells can be and compare that with the weight capacity rating of your stand. Pay particular attention to whether the capacity is quoted per peg or overall for the whole stand.

Measure Your Floor Space First

A fixed stand takes up a fixed amount of floor space, whilst an adjustable or ‘compact’ stand may be narrower. Take measurements of the space you have available for the stand, allowing sufficient space to remove the dumbbells from the stand.

Stability Feet and Floor Protection

Rubber feet on the bottom of the stand will prevent it from moving around on smooth floors and stop them from scratching the floor. You can buy adhesive rubber pads to stick to the bottom of the legs of your stand if it doesn’t have any already. They are very cheap to buy.

Match your stand to your dumbbells and keep them stable and on the floor where they belong.
